20 March 2018
We are very pleased that our Keynote Speaker is Rob Buckman, Coordinator of our Regional Party, the West Midlands Green Party. Rob has overseen a period of steady growth in councillor numbers (the Greens were the only party in the West Midlands not to lose councillors in the face of significant Tory gains last year).
The Green Party now has 50 councillors at town, parish, county, district and unitary levels in our Region, and we hold elected office in every county in the West Midlands. We hold the balance of power in Worcester and our ten Councillors in Solihull are the official opposition. You may be aware, that our colleagues in the north of Shropshire have recently added Rosie Radford, a local, businesswoman, to their number on Oswestry Town Council, making six green Town Councillors there - which has enabled them to successfully protect youth services in the town as well as take action against single use plastics. We need to help defend these gains in places in the West Midlands where there are local elections in May 2018, and we need to elect Green Councillors at every level in south Shropshire. Rob will tell us how ! Anyone who has attended the Regional gatherings that take place twice a year in Birmingham can attest that Rob Buckman, pictured below, is a very good and amusing speaker and well worth hearing.
